Felipe Vargas is a Director and Writer in the realm of boldly-original, heartfelt stories with a twist of fantasy, science-fiction, or horror. Born in Colombia, Felipe's work is inspired by fantastical Latin American mythology and legends. He is currently writing a Mexican fantasy-adventure series with TV legend Norman Lear's production company ACT III, Sony Pictures Television, and Amazon / IMDb TV. Felipe is developing an original sci-fi series with Shawn Levy's 21 Laps Entertainment, an original horror comic book with Aftershock Media, and is attached to direct a horror-thriller feature. He recently directed a kids fantasy project for Disney Channel. Felipe's fantasy film "The Guide" was acquired by DUST in 2019 and had a multi-platform online premiere, where it garnered over 3.5 million views from YouTube alone. Felipe's Florida-focused films "Vessel" and "Summer's End" were broadcast nationally on PBS in 2018 and 2016, respectively. His sci-fi film "Grapefruit & Heat Death!" was also acquired by DUST and premiered in April 2020. As a University of Southern California student, Felipe was the director and writer of two of the four greenlit thesis projects, including the horror-fantasy film "Milk Teeth", with Creature Fabricator Kat Wells' behind-the-scenes Tik Tok series receiving 20+ million views. He was selected to co-direct a horror feature adaptation of "Phantom of the Opera" for USC, with backing from John Wells and Warner Brothers. Besides writing and directing, Felipe has edited two feature length documentaries, featured on CNN, TEDx, and The Today Show. Felipe's work has been featured in over 90 film festivals including Oscar-qualifying festivals HollyShorts, Bogo Shorts, and Sitges. He is the recipient of a DGA Student Film Award, ASC Student Heritage Award (Awarded to DP Elias Ginsberg), and Imagen Award. Felipe is currently represented by Magnolia Entertainment, Gang Tyre Ramer Brown & Passman Inc, and Creative Artists Agency.
